emergency medical services.

John received his Master of Arts degree in Marriage and Family Therapy
(1989) and his Doctor of Psychology degree (1991) at the United States
International University, San Diego campus, now known as Aliant University.
While completing his studies, he worked at Home Start, Inc. that provided
in-home services to families dealing with Child Abuse, Domestic Violence,
and Drug Addiction. His professional experience with children, couples,
and families began in 1974. In 1979 he entered the U.S. Navy and
served as a chaplain until 1985. He began his studies to focus on
marriage and family therapy in 1987. From 1993 until 2006, John worked
at Oak Grove Institute, a residential treatment center for children and
adolescents in Murrieta.
Education & Experience:
Over the years, John has worked with couples who were seeking to improve
their: communication skills, conflict resolution strategies, coping styles,
and intimacy issues. He has worked with individuals who had experienced
death and divorce, loss, alienation and disorientation. He has also
worked with adolescents with substance abuse issues, depression, confusion
regarding sexual orientation and intergenerational conflicts. |

Marty is a graduate of the University of Santa Monica with a Master of
Arts degree in counseling psychology. His experience includes work with
CPS-involved families, domestic violence batterers and victims, veterans
struggling with drug and alcohol addictions, and other individuals of
all ages seeking more balanced and fulfilling lives.
Education & Experience:
An advocate of lifelong learning, Marty earned a bachelor's degree in journalism
and an MBA in international management prior to beginning his career as
a therapist. His experience as a reporter and editor for two of the nation's
largest newspapers as well as a communications manager
for multibillion-dollar corporations shaped his approach to therapy.
He is able to gather and put in perspective relevant facts from his clients’
lives while also offering a safe, accepting, nonjudgmental environment
for clients to explore their thoughts and feelings, evaluate their options,
and create new ways of relating to themselves and their loved ones. |

Her career in the mental health field began working in a psychiatric

and family conflict issues, as well as couples therapy. Her treatment
approach is interactive utilizing cognitive therapy. |

therapist for 4 years. Prior to interning at Novell and Novell
she worked for the Riverside County District Attorney's Victim Witness
Assistance Unit for 10 years. Donna received her Master of Arts at
Trinity College of Graduate Studies. Donna completed her Level 1 and Level
2 training in EMDR and is currently working on certification through the
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing International Association,
which she is a member of.

Donna is a Christian and works with children and adolescents as well as
with individuals focusing on women's issues and abusive relationships.
She works with families and children who are in the process of adoption
and has had extensive training in the area of Reactive Attachment

Owner and administrator Ben Novell has over 20 years experience. Upon
receiving his Master of Science in Counseling Psychology he has worked
in many disciplines including work in the juvenile court system as well
as time as a probation officer being nominated for Deputy Probation Officer
of the Year in Riverside County. With extensive experience in Domestic
Violence and Anger Management programs both leading and developing multiple
programs focusing on the offender.

adjustment disorders. Janelle also serves as Director of Continuing Education

Lin Stephens

Lin Stephens established her private practice with Novell & Novell
Counseling Services in May of 2002. Currently Ms. Stephens’
primary focus of practice is with adolescents and adults dealing with issues
related to depression, anxiety, trauma or abuse. Additionally Ms. Stephens
works with individuals and couples who may be experiencing communication,
relationship or other interpersonal difficulties, addresses parent-child
and blended family relational dynamics, family conflicts and/or other adjustment
issues.
Education & Experience:
Ms. Stephens has been a Licensed Clinical Social Worker since July of 1995.
Since April of 1992 she has been in the employment of state/county agencies
whereby she worked with adolescents and adults in outpatient mental health
settings and in other clinical environments with children and families.
Through her 11-year affiliation with the Parents United Treatment Programs,
Ms. Stephens has also worked extensively with perpetrators of sexual abuse,
their partners and children/adults who have been sexually molested. |
